In the midst of the challenging era shaped by the COVID-19 pandemic, narratives of resilience and newfound ventures take center stage. SHUBHVASTRAM, a thriving sustainable fashion initiative, stands out as a success tale, crafted by the determined young fashion graduate, Saloni Agarwal.
Armed with abundant creativity and her hard-earned savings from freelance art projects for boutiques during the pandemic lockdown, Saloni laid the groundwork for what would eventually evolve into the flourishing fashion brand, SHUBHVASTRAM.
Despite her Marwari roots, where societal norms leaned towards a career in chartered accountancy, Saloni’s decision to tread the path of fashion design was no easy feat. Fueled by her passion for design, she pursued a fashion designing diploma, supported by her parents. Her journey led her to Jaipur, where a rewarding internship phase planted the seeds of entrepreneurship.
The strategic choice of launching SHUBHVASTRAM in Jamshedpur reflected Saloni’s commitment to contributing to the growth of her hometown. However, the path was laden with challenges; sourcing skilled tailors and karigars proved to be a formidable hurdle. Undeterred, Saloni adopted a distinctive approach, training and empowering local housewives to become valuable contributors to her venture.
The amalgamation of the words “SHUBH” (meaning Lucky) and “VASTRAM” (meaning Clothes) forms the brand name SHUBHVASTRAM. Saloni, driven by her dedication to sustainability and community empowerment, aspires to catalyze meaningful change for all.
From sketch to final fashion statement everything just comes together so beautifully
At SHUBHVASTRAM, each garment is a work of art, meticulously crafted for special occasions. The creations, often made from upcycled leftover fabrics, distinguish themselves as wearable masterpieces.
What makes this brand exceptional is its enchanting ability to transform unused saris and dresses into fashionable, culturally infused outfits. Imagine revamping your mother’s neglected saree into a stylish Western dress, perfect for festive events like Diwali.
Yet, SHUBHVASTRAM goes beyond mere fashion; sustainability lies at its core. The brand ingeniously repurposes leftover fabric, referred to as ‘katran,’ into exquisite home decor pieces such as charming table coasters and captivating wall art.
Embark on a style journey with the exclusive collection of 3-piece sets and authentic Chikankari gowns. From hand-dyed, handmade, and handcrafted block-printed summer dresses exuding elegance to the one-layer Lehriya gown crafted from high-quality georgette fabric—discover a range that caters to diverse tastes. Stay cool in cotton kurtis, revel in the dreamy flair of shararas, and embrace the comfortable flow of kaftans. Elevate your look with stylish reversible jackets, indulge in mulmul gowns, and make a statement with funky upcycled patchwork pants paired with block-printed unisex shirts. Trendy fashion, special customer care and smart collaborations – the perfect fusion for growth
In the ever-evolving landscape of fashion, SHUBHVASTRAM stands as a refined choice for those seeking timeless Ethnic or contemporary Western wear. The brand’s commitment to sustainability adds a conscious and fashion-forward dimension, making it a compelling and distinct choice in today’s highly competitive market.
Starting out from a very modest space, but now sharing a close rapport with a growing customer base and having set high service benchmarks, Saloni is keen to create a SHUBHVASTRAM themed studio. She is doing this solely to make things more convenient for every customer and cater to their diverse needs under one centralized space.
What makes this expansion more responsible and tangible, is the fact that it is driven by empowering collaborations involving talented women tailors and artisans in Jamshedpur.
“At SHUBHVASTRAM, we believe in curating a lifestyle. We want to partner individuals in realizing their unique sense of style, firmly believing that fashion should be inclusive, and go beyond the barriers of budgetary concerns.” Shared Saloni.
