Three design school friends Vaishali, Wenicia and Shemanti, always had this “owning a fun label” tag somewhere on their minds. After working a few years in corporate, they quit their jobs to revive their dream of owning a label they always dreamt of. In 2010 with an investment of INR 30000/- the trio finally started FUNK FOR HIRE.
The addition of business partner Preeti Nair, made for a great team of women founders with the right balance of passion for design & business.
With a business model that initially functioned as an apparel label, in 2017 the product line gradually pivoted towards becoming a fashion luggage & bag brand. It was here that the creative expression of the brand was given full rein. The designs traced a path that walked on a blend of contemporary aesthetics, high function as well a certain attitude that made them stand out. The handcrafted range soon gained a lot of traction and FUNK FOR HIRE products made their way to the pockets and shoulders of over 50000 happy customers till date.
Funk For Hire is highly inspired by the diversity, vibrance of color and other elements found in India. We are inspired by what we see around us in India & in turn develop prints that highlight the fun & humour aspects- thus connecting a chord with our customers. The design team therefore constantly and successfully weaves in motifs, colours, shapes and forms that represent India. Indian Mela scenes, musical instruments, the bharaat horse, even the Indian pop art seen on the old Matchboxes, or nostalgic take on our school days with Origami, all come together in the form of prints that make the products fun, edgy & coveted
Funk For Hire offers cruelty-free vegan leather & cotton canvas products that are handcrafted & completely made in India. On the conscious side of the business, they ensure there is minimum wastage of material wherein smaller products are made from the leftover material.
